We Love
Sharing is Caring (says my very wise toddler)
Here’s a chance to share a few special resources that my friends and I love because they have made a big difference in our lives and our outlook.
These are a few of my favourite things…
Enjoy!
Dr Edward Hallowell
Dr. Edward Hallowell, is one of the world’s foremost authorities on ADHD, and fundamentally changed my life and that of my family. He is a child and adult psychiatrist, NY Times bestselling author (including the semminal book “Driven to Distraction” among many others), world-renowned speaker and leading authority in the field of ADHD. As the author of 18 books, the founder of the Hallowell Centers in New York City, Boston, and San Francisco, and an adult living with ADHD, Dr. Hallowell has worked with people living with ADHD and mental-health issues for more than 30 years. He advocates a strength-based approach focused on both promoting ADHD talents and addressing problems. Dr Hallowell believes that when it is properly managed, ADHD can become a huge asset in one’s life. Dr Hallowell also writes books beyond the world of ADHD including his most recent “Driven to Distraction at Work.”
The Parent Practice
I have had the distinct pleasure in attending a number of courses and workshops at The Parent Practice. Drawing on the latest thinking in psychology, neuroscience and psychotherapy The Parent Practice team are trained in parenting and facilitation skills and have vast experience in parenting training. Having just celebrated their ten year anniversary, the team works with parents and carers, schools and nurseries, corporate and business clients. In addition, they expand and enhance the skills of parenting professionals with our Train the Trainer courses. Until recently, this amazing resource was available only to those parents who could attend in London. I am excited to see that The Parent Practice has just launched its Positive Parenting Academy – online parenting skills training available at the convenience of parents at any time around the world.
ImpactADHD
Elaine Taylor-Klaus and Diane Dempster created ImpactADHD to provide support, expert advice, and a sense of belonging for those raising kids with ADHD. Their parent programs aim to provide a safe place to connect, learn, and be coached, allowing parents/carers to become more confident and better-equipped to manage the realities of life in an ADD/ADHD family. ImpactADHD programs are designed to meet the needs of busy parents and chaotic families with resources available on the phone, online, anytime. You can even try them out for free! Again, the coaching I received from ImpactADHD made a hugely positive impact on my parenting.
Dr Laura Markham
For me, Dr Laura Markham‘s book “Calm Parents, Happy Kids” is the go-to manual for parenting today. (The book was previously titled “Peaceful Parents, Happy Kids”). I have re-read it so frequently that my copy is almost falling part. Furthermore, Dr Markham’s insights and reflections at her site Aha! Parenting help me stay on track.
Bonnie Harris
I recently had the pleasure of meeting Bonnie Harris at a workshop in London and was bowled over by her practical, experienced and thoughtful approach to parenting. She is also very entertaining and personable. I highly recommend her classic “When Your Kids Push Your Buttons” and her most recent book entitled “Confident Parents, Remarkable Kids”.
